Odilon at AD Intérieurs Paris,
with Nicolas Schuybroek
In 2018, Odilon Creations was proudly part of AD Intérieurs in Paris. Architect Nicolas Schuybroek invited us to be one of the defining materials to the interior he designed specifically for the event.
A Stage for Ten Designers
AD Intérieurs is a platform initiated by Architectural Digest France. In 2018, it brought ten architects and designers together in Paris and gave each of them a space of their own and carte blanche to show their style and craftsmanship. The format recalls the Parisian salons of the 1920s, where artists who mostly worked for private clients could present their work to a public audience.
A World in a Box
Nicolas Schuybroek and his studio designed one complete interior, a "world in a box" that existed only for itself. With no brief to follow, the studio could follow its own ideas, using proportions, symmetry and alignments to give an interior project a strong architectural dimension. Slatted stone recalled the Art Deco details that have long appealed to him, and the whole aimed for the calm of a temple, with a nod to the work of James Turrell and Constantin Brâncuși.
Craftspeople in the Spotlight
For the studio, the installation was also a way to bring the makers and artisans it had worked with over the years into public view and to celebrate their talent. Odilon was among them. We were glad to be part of it, because it shows what our finishes do best: they support a designer's vision and give it a tactile presence.
Calm, Seen on Visitors' Faces
Nicolas Schuybroek spent several days in the installation and watched how people moved through it. He saw expressions change as visitors stepped inside, and he sensed a feeling of calm and serenity in people of very different backgrounds. It was also the first time the studio could share its work under its own name with a real audience, and not only with the guests of its clients.
